NVDA - The XR NVDA Team! (in the Rebel Hall)
This Non-Violent Direction Action workshop aims to give you confidence when on protests and interacting with the police, and is essential for anyone who wishes to get more clued up on their rights and the processes of arrest. This is NOT just for those who are willing to get arrested. It is for EVERYONE with an interest in the cause.
We will cover topics such as:
Oppression, Movement building and our Relationships as activists - Alima, Karl, Nuala, Liam
We are activists within XR looking at how movements can be divided when oppression goes unaddressed, and offering practical tools to heal these divisions which affect our relationships as activists.
This workshop will address the importance of understanding the structural nature of oppressions (such as racism sexism and classism), as well as doing personal healing work -- both of which are necessary if we are to work together effectively in a united movement.
New Municipalism, the Fearless Cities Revolution (talk) - Jamie
A session on how to take over your local authority and have it run by the community for the community in preparation for the great transition to net zero carbon. The XR 2nd demand will need a complete shift in how we organise as a society. Communities will have to reclaim power and learn how to take and celebrate collective repsonsibility for the deep adaptation that will be necessitated. The good news is, this process is already beginning globally and can result in a far happier society!

It covers the basics of your rights when protesting, interacting with the police, what happens when arrested and possible consequences, basic legal info and key points to remember. If you are considering taking on an arrestable role, then this workshop can help to make an informed decision on whether to do so.

This workshop will given an introduction to meeting facilitation, including some hints and tips to get you started – how to encourage everyone to speak, how to shut some people up (kindly!), how to move the group on when consensus seems out of reach, and more. WHOSE STREETS? Group Dynamics For Nonviolent Civil Disobedience - Reboot the Roots
A workshop exploring how we can organise to influence the dynamics of groups of people on the streets, exploring techniques from the Theatre of the Oppressed, de-escalation, beautiful trouble and complexity theory. Together we can play and prepare to look after ourselves and each other during protest actions, taking into account our differing levels of privilege, capacity and ability, and examine what it means to reclaim the streets.

How to run People’s Assemblies - Jamie
People's Assembly on how to run people's assemblies- this will start with a basic skill share in facilitating and running people's assemblies, including a discussion on the best themes for XR groups to discuss through assemblies followed by a practical run through of an assembly discussing how local councils can be encouraged to take steps to act upoin their declarations of climate emergency. This will be a practise run for those thinking of becoming facilitators for their regional groups.
Considering Prison – Practicalities & Prep - Stu
In this workshop we’ll hear about prison experiences from people who have gone to prison for their activism, including specific details about prison life. We’ll explore some of the fears about going to prison, consider motivations for risking going to prison, and to try to anticipate any needs we might have around the experience.
